Every year, the nonprofit organizations near our Lombard apartments work to improve the lives of Illinois residents.
They offer everything from nutritious meals to camps for seriously ill children. If you would like to support their cause, here are a few organizations you can help from home:
Northern Illinois Food Bank
A member of Feeding America, the Northern Illinois Food Bank provides meals to those in need through innovative programs and partnerships. It serves thirteen counties and believes that no one should ever go hungry. The food bank accepts one-time or monthly donations online in any amount. Just one dollar helps provide eight dollars worth of groceries.
Cradles to Crayons
When Lynn Margherlo was helping her young niece get dressed, she noticed many pieces of clothing were outgrown. Several still had the tags on them. Lynn instantly began thinking about helping children in need. That’s how Cradles to Crayons was born. It provides essentials to children living in homeless or low-income situations. The supplies help kids feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. You can donate online or by mail. You can also drop off pajamas, winter coats, and other gently used items at the South Side YMCA or Highwood Public Library.
Established in 1983, the TLC Camp provides an exciting week of activities for children with cancer and a sibling. It’s the only camp of its type in Illinois. TLC is run entirely by volunteers, and it is free of charge to all campers. Donations help pay for food, lodging, games, and much more.
After helping one of these area nonprofits, you’ll want to help yourself by learning a new language with a free app. It will have you speaking fluently in no time.
